Chilcotin Holidays

A Pine Marten at the ranch... guiding lessons furry visitor

Yesterday, we had a special visitor checking out our garbage trailer during the guiding lessons... a Pine Marten. Apparently hungry, the little marten was digging food out of some garbage bags. As soon as she saw one of us approaching, she fled up the very top of the nearest pine tree.

Pine Martens are rarely seen due to a quite low population density per sq km, especially in the winter as they are less active than during the summer time. We got very lucky to surprise this one and have the chance to observe it for a good half hour, before heading back to our guiding lessons in shoeing and packing horses.
