Sending the Horses out for the Summer

As the days pass here at the ranch and with the beautiful weather coming in to brighten up the amazing wilderness setting, it was time to ride the horses up to their summer range, a summer vacation for the horses! The day we decided to saddle up for the ride was the perfect one, sunny with a nice cool breeze! We all saddled up with our different horses while, bonding with our horse and organising who would also lead which horse. Once all the organisation was done it was time to head out, it was a beautiful sight: each rider on their horse lining up and leading another one. It was just like in the wild west movies, geared up in jeans, shirts and cowboy/ cowgirl hat! The way to the summer range was incredible, we got to experience a lot of trotting which was a real challenge while leading another horse, but guess what? It was an amazing opportunity! The scenery going up hill was breathtaking and we could see a wide range of mountains with the snow on top and the Carpenter Lake dam. We also got to see a few of the region's wildlife such as mule deer that was more busy grazing than paying attention to us which allowed the whole group to see many of them up really close! The trail to the range was varied from gravel to muddy waters that nearly inspired a few horses to take a fresh splash in but they were considerate towards their riders and were just happy to get their feet wet! When we arrived at the range we had to unsaddle the horses, tie them to trees to unsaddle and let them go on the trail towards their favourite spot to a well deserved graze. As we let all the horses loose we were picked up by the ranches’ van. Again the way back was as interesting as the way up, as we were able to see a different perspective of the landscape in the car as we were all chatting along, sharing our different experiences of the day and excited to have been part of this incredible journey that is to take the horses out for summer!
